Michelle Pujol - Artist’s statement
I have always had an interest with the natural organic world around me, often picking up seed pods on adventures and delighting in new found plant species when I was a child. With my mother an avid gardener and father a homeopath and botanist it is no wonder that I have this fascination. Yet still I found it a mystery why I had such a fascination for this green imaginative world.
I explored this in fine arts, painting and sculpting seed pods found in the nearby gardens, I had only begun to scratch the surface of my creative intent and my work reflected this. I loved the small intimate spaces that these little treasures held within them. It only seemed natural to embark on a jewellery career learning to master the small details and fine skills in metal.
My jewellery has matured as I have grown to know my medium and learned to appreciate its qualities. Using both a fine arts eye for dynamic line, dramatic shade and colour and my jewellery skills for forging shapes, a method that requires a sensitivity and physical interaction with the materials, I have created a number of forms which I hope will stimulate the viewer and delight the wearer. When I create these pieces the act of making pays homage to a greater creator often leaving me with a feeling of spiritual fulfillment. This is what I refer to as the spirit in nature, a moment of enlightenment, by being fully present in the act of stopping, observing, interpreting and making. It is my intention that my pieces of jewellery keep the viewer and wearer interested over time, creating an appreciation for organic form and the myriad of secretes that lie within.
